. they want tuition cut now that prop 30 passed. ktvu's sal castaneda is live with how today's action is a far cry from what happened a year ago. >> reporter: for one thing the protesters have left, although these are a lot of students walking by, walk ugway from -- walking away from class. they say they were protesting to make higher education affordable to all. >> reporter: many braved the wind and the rain for a walk out and rally to demand tuition reductions now that prop 30 has passed. at one point it was pouring but that didn't dampen the spirit of the crowd. today's demonstration comes near the first anniversary of the occupy cal movement. last year police and protesters clashed when tents were removed. this year the demonstration has been noisy but peaceful so far. after the noon rally the crowd marched where meetings were held. they wanted to make sure the money raised by prop 30 gets used for public education. >> right now the money is not guaranteed to go to public education. unless we push it goes where it is supposed to go, it will end up going to the general fund. >> have to show
to their jobs or the company will go out of business. ktvu's sal castaneda has more. >> reporter: some of the workers were still on strike. we were in oakland at 2:00 p.m. and production continued. in jeopardy brands that may stop being produced because of a stalemate between management and workers. >> reporter: workers at this bakery in oakland say they joined bakers at 26 other plants nationwide on strike after a judge imposed a contract with too many take away. they say it is necessary to stay in business. leaders say the company has been mismanaged and now workers are being asked to sacrifice too month. he worked here for 28 years says 92% voted to walk out saying enough is enough. >> they are trying to make a profit by taking away from the worker's wages, not by sales or improvements in the product. >> reporter: although operations continue here today, company officials say it can't continue with a shortage of workers. hostest ceo says the only altern -- hostess ceo says the only alternative is to shut down completely. >> we don't have enough to maintain normal production. we are

's sal castaneda shows us where it happened. sal? >> reporter: this stretch of 580 here is where the shooting started. last night at 830 p.m. and police and chp are looking for those shooters. >> reporter: when officers arrived they found two abandon crashed cars riddled with bullets. the chp says last night about 8:30 p.m. two cars entered interstate 580 at edwards and began exchanging gunfire. >> there were no innocent by standards that were hit -- bistandards that were hit. >> reporter: all lanes were closed for 3 hours. police detailed a 16-year-old boy. they say he was hurt as a result of the crash. investigators say no one turned up at an emergency wound with injuries. >> we have good witnesses that called in. we will follow up on that to try to determine what they saw and put this together. >> reporter: many say they heard what happened. >> sounded like automatic gunfire. it sounded like it was moving from my left to my right. this direction, moving in this direction. >> holiday times. oakland has a bad rap. you know, i stay in this area so it has been a lot of shootings o
